State scholarships for students of lower socio-economic status

Pursuant to the Ordinance on the Conditions and Manner of Exercising the Right to a State Scholarship Based on Socio-Economic Status (Official Gazette, no. 83/18), a public tender for the award of state scholarships for students of lower socio-economic status is published every academic year

The right to a state scholarship can be realised by full-time students Croatian citizens and citizens of the European Union with registered temporary residence in the Republic of Croatia, who have been granted the status of foreigners permanently residing in the Republic of Croatia and persons in accordance with the International Protection and Temporary Protection Act, enrolled at the universities in the Republic of Croatia in undergraduate university studies, graduate university studies, integrated undergraduate and graduate university studies, short professional studies, undergraduate professional studies and specialist graduate professional studies, and students with disabilities and students without adequate parental care enrolled in postgraduate studies.
 
Students can compete for state scholarships in the following categories:
D-1 - students who are children of persons killed, deceased and missing under the circumstances referred to in Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the Act on Protection of Disabled Military and Civil War Veterans and children of peacetime disabled military and civilian war veterans whose physical injury occurred under the circumstances referred to in Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the same act, peacetime disabled military and civilian war veterans whose physical injury occurred under the circumstances of Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the same act
E - students of lower socio-economic status
P - students with disabilities and students without adequate parental care enrolled in postgraduate university studies.

The aim of state scholarships

The aim of state scholarships is to ensure equal access to higher education by increasing direct financial support to full-time students. By awarding scholarships to students of lower socio-economic status, the state contributes to improving the social dimension of higher education and increasing the completion rate in higher education.
 
With this aim in mind, state scholarships are awarded to the target group of full-time students of lower socio-economic status and to students with disabilities and students without adequate parental care enrolled in postgraduate university studies.

Award of state scholarships

State scholarships are awarded on the basis of a conducted public tender. The public tender for the award of state scholarships is announced by the Minister no later than 15 October of the current year for that academic year.

Students submit their application by filling out an electronic form.

Students acquire the right to receive a state scholarship after accepting the Scholarship Terms and Conditions. The acceptance of the Scholarship Terms and Conditions is considered an act of concluding a contract regulating the rights and obligations of the Ministry and the student.

The amount of the state scholarship is paid to the giro account of the scholarship beneficiary.
