The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure awards scholarships in the amount of 106,18 EUR per month to students of nautical, marine engineering and fishing-nautical school programmes.

The aim of the scholarship is to train the best possible professional staff on ships of the Croatian merchant navy as a guarantee for the safety of navigation, protection of human lives and protection of the marine environment, and to increase the quality of education and improve maritime affairs.

Scholarship conditions

In addition to the application for participation in the public tender published every year by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, the basic conditions that the students of maritime schools must meet are the following:
  • a non-repeat of a school year;
  • GPA of at least 3.50 from a previous school year at the moment of applying for the scholarship, followed by the whole duration of receiving the scholarship;
  • sailing on ships flying the Croatian flag after completing their education for at least as long as they received the scholarship, except when, due to the situation on the maritime labour market, it is not possible for everyone to perform such a service by boarding a ship.
Exceptionally, if there are no vacancies on the ships of Croatian shipowners, trained naval scholarship recipients may also board ships under a foreign flag.
