Unemployment rights

During unemployment, you are, under certain conditions, entitled to financial compensation, pension insurance and various types of financial assistance

During unemployment, you are, under certain conditions, entitled to financial compensation, pension insurance and various types of financial assistance. 

During unemployment you have the right to:
  • financial compensation; 
  • pension insurance;
  • financial assistance and reimbursement of transport costs during education and training at the workplace;
  • one-time financial assistance and reimbursement of travel and relocation expenses;
  • financial assistance for persons insured in extended pension insurance system on the basis of a fixed-term employment contract for permanent seasonal jobs.

Unemployment financial compensation 

You are entitled to financial compensation provided that you have at least nine months of uninterrupted work in the last 24 months at the time of termination of employment or independent profession. 

To exercise this right, you must, within 30 days of termination of employment, independent profession, temporary incapacity for work, or maternity, parental, adoptive or custodial leave, register with the regional office of the Croatian Employment Service and apply for financial compensation. 

You cannot exercise the right to financial compensation if your employment has been terminated through your own fault or will, and if your independent profession was terminated without a justified reason.

Pension insurance

You are entitled to a pension insurance if you have been entitled to a financial compensation and if you meet the age requirement for acquiring the right to an old-age pension, until you acquire the first condition of retirement for an old-age pension, but for a maximum duration of five years.

Financial assistance and reimbursement of transport costs during education and training at the workplace 

If the CES referred you to education and training organised by CES or the costs of which are covered by CES, you are entitled to financial assistance and reimbursement of transport costs during that education in proportion to the number of days of you attended that education and training

One-time financial assistance and reimbursement of travel and relocation expenses 

In the event that the CES cannot provide you with employment in the place of residence or temporary residence, and you find a job elsewhere yourself or through the CES, you are entitled to one-time financial assistance and reimbursement of travel and relocation expenses for yourself, your (extra-marital) partner and children from your place of residence or temporary residence to place of employment.

Financial assistance for persons insured in extended pension insurance system on the basis of a fixed-term employment contract for permanent seasonal jobs

A permanent seasonal worker is a person insured in the extended pension insurance system on the basis of a fixed-term employment contract for permanent seasonal jobs, a person who has spent at least six months working for the same employer continuously and who will work for that employer for at least one season. A permanent seasonal worker is entitled to financial assistance for a maximum period of 6 months of extended pension insurance. The right to financial assistance is granted to a permanent seasonal worker to whom the CES approves and co-finances the costs of extended pension insurance in accordance with the conditions and modalities of using active employment policy measures. An application for financial assistance may be submitted to the CES by a permanent seasonal worker within 30 days from the day of acquiring the status of an insured person in the extended pension insurance system.
