Protecting children online

Find out how to report online content which you suspect is illegal and pertains to various types of child exploitation and abuse

The following is prohibited in Croatia:

• Proposing meetings to children under the age of 15 via the internet, e-mail or smartphones for the purpose of sexual intercourse with a child
• Collecting, sharing with others and transferring data on persons under the age of 15 for the purpose of sexual intercourse
• Exploiting children for pornography, which includes accessing such content online or possessing such content
• Disclosing or transferring something from children’s personal or family life, publishing their photographs or disclosing their identity, which would cause them to feel upset, be mocked by their peers or other persons or would otherwise jeopardize their wellbeing.

Red Button

Red Button is an application intended for everyone, but is particularly suited to children and enables you to report online content which you suspect is illegal and pertains to various forms of child exploitation or abuse.

Anyone who wants to report any form of online child exploitation or abuse just needs to open the application, which can be found on the website of the Ministry of the Interior, and fill in the report, which will immediately be sent to the competent service

Emergencies

If you require urgent help or police intervention, do not send a message via this application! Instead, call the police at 192 or notify an adult you trust and ask them to call the police or follow them to the nearest police administration or station and ask the police for help.

On the website of the Ministry of the Interior you can find additional links with information and advice for children to learn about their rights and how to get protection and help in various situations in which children’s rights are jeopardized, particularly information and advice on child exploitation and abuse online.

If you want to report inappropriate content to the police, save (store) this content with the information on where and when it was published because online content is constantly changing.
