  • if you find yourself in the open air at the time of the declaration of danger enter the indoor area immediately and get out of the way
  • do not eat, drink or smoke in a potentially contaminated area
  • close all doors and windows, turn off all ventilation systems
  • prevent external air from entering by placing damp towels or adhesive strips around the neck, windows and openings
  • turn on your radio or TV set to get the latest information and hear instructions from the authorities
  • only consume the food and drink you have in your apartment/house from before
  • eat fresh food products from the endangered area as instructed by the competent services
  • if you were out in the open at the time of the accident and think you were exposed to radioactive material, move to the enclosure as soon as possible, remove all clothing and footwear and place it in a plastic bag that needs to be well closed; if possible, shower with warm water and wash with soap
  • when you leave the contaminated area, inform the competent services that you may have been exposed to radioactive material, hand over a bag of contaminated clothing and footwear; stay calm and listen carefully to new instructions and information from the competent services via the media (TV, radio, Internet, etc.)
  • in the event of a nuclear accident, take stable iodine tablets only as instructed by the competent services
