Energy renovation of public sector buildings

Reducing utility costs and achieving better quality of stay in schools, kindergartens, student homes, etc. through energy renovation of buildings

Out of EUR 311 million, which are under the Operational Programme “Competitiveness and Cohesion” allocated for energy renovation of residential and public sector buildings, and funded through the European Regional Development Fund, the public calls by the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets have until now resulted in 95% of the committed funds.
Since 2015, four public calls for energy renovation of buildings were launched, for which the eligible applicants were public institutions performing educational activities.
Until now, contracts were concluded for:
  • Educational institutions – grants in the amount of 53.089.123,37 EUR (HRK 400 million) – 321 contracts
  • Public buildings – grants in the amount of 151.304.001,59 EUR (HRK 1.14 billion) – 550 contracts 
Following all the public calls to date, renovation is currently underway in Croatia for 871 public buildings (hospitals, schools and kindergartens) which are, among others, used by more than 70,000 students and children.
The average energy savings achieved by buildings are more than 60%.
