Enrolment in kindergarten

Apart from the regular programme, kindergartens also offer various alternatives such as foreign language and drama and theatre programmes

As a rule, applications are usually submitted to the appropriate local kindergarten in the place of your permanent residence, with the option of selecting a different kindergarten as an alternative, and some cities are gradually introducing the electronic service of kindergarten enrolment.

Enrolment in kindergartens takes place in May of the current school year for the following school year, which begins on 1 September, while the speed of enrolment and the location of the kindergarten depend on the enrolment quota of an individual kindergarten.

A list of the necessary documentation to be enclosed when enrolling a child in a kindergarten can be found on the kindergarten’s website and, depending on the duration of the programme attended by the child, the kindergarten also provides meals, the cost of which is included in the kindergarten fee (4 meals—which include meals with fruit and dairy—are provided in an 8-10 hour programme).

Apart from the regular programme, kindergartens also offer various alternatives such as foreign language and drama and theatre programmes. The fee you pay for your child attending kindergarten usually equals 40% of the economic price; that is, between 46,46 EUR to 331,8 EUR depending on the portion co-financed by the local self-government unit for the children from that area.
Before enrolling your child in kindergarten, the child needs to undergo a check-up conducted by a physician, and the physician needs to issue a certificate in this respect.
If your child did not systematically attend kindergarten until the age of six, they need to attend the compulsory preschool programme in the closest kindergarten or primary school.
