Purchasing used vehicles
If you are planning to purchase a used vehicle from an unauthorised seller, be careful – you could be purchasing a stolen vehicle
If you are planning to purchase a vehicle at a used car market or from an individual you are unfamiliar with, keep in mind the following tips to reduce the risk of purchasing a stolen vehicle:
- Be careful when purchasing a vehicle that does not have an original key or the required number of key copies;
- Check if the name of the vehicle registration certificate matches the name on the ID card of the seller;
- Do not purchase vehicles from a person who is not the owner of the vehicle, unless they have a valid power of authority to sell it;
- Check if there are any signs of mechanical damage possibly indicating that the vehicle has been stolen (damaged locks, damage in the area of the VIN, damage to the fittings below the steering wheel and in the area of the ignition switch, etc.);
- Compare the identification data of the vehicle (VIN, production year) with those registered in the vehicle's documents;
- Check if there are any encumbrances or notices on the vehicle you are thinking of purchasing through the Financial Agency (FINA).
