Useful tips on how to prevent misuse of personal data

1) BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHO YOU GIVE YOUR PERSONAL DATA TO AND WHY

It is less likely that your data will be misused when they are provided in accordance with the law and when there is a legitimate (legal) purpose—e.g. provision of personal data to the employer, doctor, public authorities and other service providers for the purpose of provision of those services and conclusion of contracts, etc., provision of data to the bank whose client the person is, as well as to other legal persons and/or public authorities for the purpose of regulation of the relationship with them. More precisely, it is possible to control (supervise) personal data processing in these cases since it is known who, how, and on what legal grounds and for what purpose is processing personal data.

In situations in which you provide your personal data to persons you do not know or dispose of your personal data without any discernment or thinking about the purpose and reason for which you are providing them and to whom, it is completely uncertain for what purpose they will be (mis)used!

2) PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA FROM UNAUTHORISED ACCESS WITH STRONG PASSWORDS

3) BEFORE YOU THROW AWAY YOUR PERSONAL DATA INTO THE TRASH BIN, THINK WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF SOMEBODY FINDS THEM!
Destroy those documents which include your personal data if you no longer need them!

4) THINK ABOUT WHERE YOU PROVIDE YOUR PERSONAL DATA—if you have provided certain personal data on one social media platform, and then provided some other personal data on a professional networking platform, you may not even be aware that you have provided a whole set of your personal data which together comprise a set of personal data which can be misused!
