Status of a family member of a deceased or missing Croatian Homeland War Veteran

A Disabled Croatian Homeland War Veteran is a Croatian Homeland War veteran who has suffered at least a 20-percent bodily disability

You can obtain the status of a family member of a Deceased Croatian Homeland War Veteran if the Croatian Homeland War veteran:
  • died defending the sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia in the period from 5 August 1990 to 30 June 1996
  • was killed while detained in an enemy camp, prison, or other enemy facility
  • died as a result of a wound or injury sustained defending the sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia, no later than 31 December 1997
  • died as a result of illness, aggravation of illness or occurrence of illness contracted defending the sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia and if family members submitted an application for obtaining the status of a family member of a deceased Croatian Homeland War veteran prior to the entry into force of the Act on the Amendments to the Act on the Rights of Croatian Homeland War Veterans and their Family Members (Official Gazette 137/09)
  • committed suicide as a result of a mental illness caused by participating in the defence of the sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia prior to the date of entry into force of this Act (14 December 2017)
  • died as a Group I Disabled Croatian Homeland War Veteran with a recognised right to allowance for care and assistance provided by another person as a result of a wound or injury sustained defending the sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia, or died of an illness occurring as a result of a bodily disability due to a wound or injury on the basis of which they received the recognition of the status as a Group I Disabled Croatian Homeland War Veteran with the right to allowance for care and assistance of another person on that basis prior to the entry into force of this Act (14 December 2017).

You can obtain the status of a family member of a Missing Croatian Homeland War Veteran if the Croatian Homeland War veteran went missing while defending the sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia.

You may submit your application for recognition of the status as a family member of a deceased or missing Croatian Homeland War Veteran and related rights to the administrative authority in your county or to the City Office for War Veterans in Zagreb, depending on your place of residence.
