Exemption from participation in healthcare costs under mandatory insurance

Find out whether you are exempt from participating in healthcare costs under mandatory insurance, i.e. whether you are entitled to a health insurance card bearing the mark “HB

You are exempt from participating in healthcare costs under mandatory insurance if you are:
  • a disabled Croatian Homeland War veteran
  • a Croatian veteran with established bodily disability of at least 30 percent
  • a member of the family of a Croatian Homeland War veteran who died while being a beneficiary of the family disability allowance
  • a member of the family of a Croatian war veteran who went missing while being a beneficiary of an allowance in the amount of the family disability allowance
  • the child of a deceased Croatian Homeland War veteran and the child of a missing Croatian Homeland War veteran who is no longer entitled to family disability allowance, i.e. financial benefit in the amount of family disability allowance if you are:
    •  unemployed and if while being a beneficiary of the family disability allowance or financial benefit in the amount of the family disability allowance you were left without parental care of the other parent or the other parent died, or
    • while you are beneficiaries of financial benefits for unemployed Croatian Homeland War veterans and their family members.
In order to exercise your rights, the Croatian Health Insurance Institute will issue you a health insurance card bearing the mark “HB”, which will replace the existing health insurance cards for mandatory health insurance and supplementary health insurance.
