Classification and Categorization of Catering and Tourism Facilities, Household Facilities and Family Farms

The employer shall have a valid reason for terminating the employment contract, and the validity of the dismissal may be challenged in court

Catering and tourism facilities, household facilities and facilities on family farms (“OPG”) may start their activities if they have been issued a decision for performing catering/tourism activities and have visibly displayed the prescribed standardized designation (plate) within the facility.

Catering facilities are classified into the following types and categories:

Within the group “Restaurants”:
  • Restaurant, Tavern, Soda Shop, Snack Bar, Bar-and-Grill, Pizzeria, Bistro, Pastry Shop, Fast Food Catering – no category

Within the group “Bars”:
  • Coffeehouse, Night Club, Late-Night Bar, Discotheque, Café, Pub, Buffet, Inn, Tavern, Wine Cellar, Beach Bar, Tasting Room – no category

“Catering Facility”:
  • Catering Service – no category

Within the group “Simplified Service Facilities”:
  • Simplified Service Facility – Kiosk, Simplified Fast Service Facility, Simplified Service Facility – Stationary Vehicle (or Trailer), Simplified Service Facility – Tent, Simplified Service Facility – Bench, Simplified Service Facility – Trolley (or similar object) – no category

Within the group “Hotels”:
  • Heritage Hotel – no category
  • Diffused Hotel – no category
  • Hotel (with annex), Apartment Hotel (with annex), Tourist Resort – two to five stars
  • Tourist Suite – two to four stars
  • Boarding House – standard and comfort categories
  • Integrated Hotel – uncategorised, consisting of facilities categorised by three to five stars
  • Spas – categorised according to type
  • Special Standard Hotel – no category.

 Within the group “Camps”:
  • Camp – two to five stars
  • Glamping – four and five stars
  • Campsite – no category

Within the group “Other Catering Facilities Offering Accommodation”:
  • Room, Studio Suite – two to four stars
  • Suite, Holiday house – two to five stars
  • Bed-and-Breakfast, Dormitory or Student Dormitory or Institutional Accommodation, Children's Resort, Hostel, Hunting Lodge, Mountain Lodge, Off-Grid Accommodation – no category

“Household-Based Facilities”:
  • Room, Suite, Studio Suite, Holiday House, Camp – two to five stars
  • Campsite, Off-Grid Accommodation – no category

“Family Farm Facilities”:
  • Wine Shop / Tasting Room, Excursion Site – no category
  • Room, Suite, Rural Holiday House, Camp – two to four suns
  • Campsite, Off-Grid Accommodation – no category

“Nautical Tourism Port”
  • Marina – two to five anchors
“Other Facilities Providing Vessel Mooring and Stowage Services”:
  • Nautical Anchoring Site, Nautical Berth, Vessel Stowage Site, Dry Dock – no category

“Nautical Tourism Vessels”:
  • Excursion Vessels, Cruise Vessels, Fishing Vessels – no category
 

Competence

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports conducts the administrative procedure of classification and categorization:
  • Hotels – Heritage Hotels, Diffused Hotels, Hotels, Apartment Hotels, Tourist Resorts, Tourist Suites, Integrated Hotels, Spas, Special Standard Hotels;
  • Camps – Camp;
  • Nautical Tourism Ports – Marina.

Apart from classifying and categorising facilities, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports conducts the procedure for awarding the Quality (Q) label to hotels and assigning special standard labels to facilities from the Hotels group (except for Boarding Houses and Spas). The following special standard labels are assigned: Business, Meetings, Congress, Club, Casino, Holiday Resort, Coastal Holiday Resort, Family, Small & Friendly, Senior Citizens, Health & Fitness, Wellness, Diving Club, Motel, Ski, Disability-Friendly and Cycling (for cyclists).

Administrative county-level or the City of Zagreb authorities competent for the performance of state administration tasks related to catering and services in tourism perform the administrative classification procedure, or the classification and categorization procedure, depending on the type of facility:
  • Within the group Hotels – Boarding House;
  • Other Catering Facilities Offering Accommodation – Room, Suite, Studio Suite, Holiday Home, Bed-and-Breakfast, Children's Resort, Hostel, Hunting Lodge, Mountain Lodge, Dormitory or Student Dormitory or Institutional Accommodation, Off-Grid Accommodation;
  • Facilities Providing Catering Services in Households – Room, Suite, Studio Suite, Holiday House, Camp, Campsite and Off-Grid Accommodation;
  • Facilities Providing Catering Services on Family Farms – Wine Shop / Tasting Room, Excursion Site, Room, Suite, Rural Holiday House, Camp, Campsite, Off-Grid Accommodation; The competent administrative authorities also award a quality label for the types Excursion Site, Room, Suite, Rural Holiday House and Camp;
  • Within the groups Restaurants, Bars, Catering Facilities and Simplified Service Facilities – Restaurant, Tavern, Soda Shop, Snack Bar, Bar-and-Grill, Pizzeria, Bistro, Pastry Shop, Fast Food Catering, Coffeehouse, Night Club, Late-Night Bar, Discotheque, Café, Pub, Buffet, Inn, Tavern, Wine Cellar, Beach Bar, Tasting Room, Catering Service, Simplified Service Facility – Kiosk, Simplified Fast Service Facility, Simplified Service Facility – Stationary Vehicle (or Trailer), Simplified Service Facility – Tent, Simplified Service Facility – Bench, Simplified Service Facility – Trolley;
  • Within the group Other Facilities Providing Vessel Mooring and Stowage Services – Nautical Anchoring Site, Nautical Berth, Vessel Stowage Site, Dry Dock
  • Within the group Nautical Tourism Vessels – Excursion Vessels, Cruise Vessels, Fishing Vessels.
