Cadet-military pilot programme

Cadets-military are recipients of a scholarship from the Croatian Armed Forces for the undergraduate and graduate university study programmes in aeronautics at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences of the University of Zagreb

The cadet-military pilot is a recipient of the scholarship from the Croatian Armed Forces (CAF), who fulfils their rights and obligations by concluding a contract with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on education, i.e., scholarship in the undergraduate and graduate studies in aeronautics at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences of the University of Zagreb, in accordance with the call for applications published by the MOD once a year in a daily newspaper.

Cadet training

The training of cadet-military pilots at the faculty takes place according to the same programme as for other students of higher education institutions with the addition of military training programmes, i.e., a part of the programme in which cadets study military-specific education content in military camps and through teaching modules for the CAF.

During their studies, the cadets are provided with a scholarship, accommodation and meals, literature, military uniform and sports equipment, and reimbursement of travel expenses.

Application

A candidate for a cadet-military pilot must submit an application in response to a call for applications published by the Ministry of Defence in the public media or online via the website: www.vojnipilot.hr.

Their application must contain the following:
  • filled-in application form;
  • a copy of the identity card and birth certificate;
  • a copy of an annual report card from the fourth grade of high school or a certificate of attendance;
  • a certificate that no criminal proceedings have been instituted before the competent court, not older than six months.

Admission requirements

A candidate wishing to become part of a civil-military training programme for a cadet-military pilot must meet the following requirements: 
  • citizenship of the Republic of Croatia;
  • at most 22 years of age by the end of the calendar year in which the call is published;
  • meeting the prescribed criteria for cadets based on psychological examination and health examinations;
  • meeting safety criteria;
  • in the process of applying for the state graduation exams, on the website www.postani-student.hr, it is necessary to select the Faculty of Transport Sciences (FPZ), Aeronautics, module – military pilot on the list of priorities and apply for the required subjects for which the ranking list is formed: mathematics A level, and Croatian and English B level at the state graduation exams.

The course of activities from registration to admission to CAF cadets

A candidate for a cadet-military pilot must submit an application in response to a call for applications published by the Ministry of Defence in the public media or online via the website: www.vojnipilot.hr.

Candidates who meet the requirements of the call are invited to pre-testing, which consists of a psychological testing and physical fitness tests, and then to specialist medical examinations at the Institute of Aviation Medicine in Zagreb. All candidates who pass the medical examinations will be notified through the Regional Department of Defence Affairs, and will be invited to the Selection Flight procedure.

During that procedure, candidates for cadet-military pilots fly on an aircraft type ZLIN-242L for a period of 5 weeks, regarding which they sign pre-agreements with the MOD. Candidates who pass the selection flight procedure acquire the conditions for enrolment at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences in the second enrolment period (in September).

Before the beginning of the academic year, candidates for cadets-pilots go to the preparatory camp, which is held at the Croatian Military Academy in Zagreb. As part of the preparatory camp, cadets take the solemn oath and sign an education contract with the MOD.

The training of cadets-military pilots lasts five years, and includes undergraduate and graduate studies in Aeronautics – Military Pilot module, at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences in Zagreb. Flying and Basic Officer Trainings are integrated into the programme of the graduate study programme of aeronautics.

Professional development

During their career, the CAF officer has the opportunity and obligation to continuously improve their knowledge and skills in professional courses and foreign language courses in Croatia and abroad.
